| DOUG YOUNG grew up in Hawai'i and has been a full-time artist since 1973. He is best known for his photo-realistic paintings of today's island lifestyle. Besides watercolor and acrylic mediums, he also likes to blend today's technology with his paintings. Doug's "Sunbather" gecko sculpture, a benefit for the Kapiolani Breast Cancer Center, drew rave reviews and the highest auction price. Educated at Coe College, NewYork University, and University of Hawai’i, Young built life-size figures for the late realist sculptor Duane Hanson in New York and Germany. He also worked for Ivan Karp at OK Harris in SoHo and assisted artists such as H.N.Han, Elenore Mikus, Luis Jimenez Jr., and John Clem Clarke. His paintings have been in extensive shows, collections and books. He was awarded the Individual Artist Fellowship from the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. |
