| CYNTHIA WIIG, Hawai'i-born jewelry designer and silversmith, earned her BFA in sculpture at the University of Hawai'i in 1979. Much of her current work takes an experimental and intuitive approach. As she hammers the silver or gold, she observes its movement and uses that information in designing the final piece. While texturing the metal, for example, she discovered that the blows of the hammer created the illusion of light reflecting on the ocean. This discovery led her to produce a body of work on the same theme. Her work was featured in a recent issue of Lapidary Journal on contemporary silver jewelry. |
