Roger studied watercolor painting with Robert E. Wood and is a signature member of the Hawai’i Watercolor Society and the Northwest Watercolor Society.  He has won many exhibition awards, most recently the first Hawai’i Watercolor Society Signature Award and his second Best in Show Award. He has had over 25 solo shows since 1994.  Reviewing one of these shows, Honolulu Advertiser critic Virginia Wageman wrote “ In his ever-shifting focus on subjects, bringing variety to an exceptional oeuvre, Roger Whitlock is one of Hawai’i’s premier watercolorists.” In 2001, Watercolor Magic recognized Roger as one of 15 American watercolor painters “to watch.” In July 2010 he will be featured in an article in Watercolor Magazine. He regularly teaches the Advanced Watercolor class at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. A native of Seattle, Roger has lived in Honolulu since 1970.
