Doug Young

Painting and Mixed Media

Doug grew up in Hawai’i and has been a full-time artist since 1973. He is best known for his local photo-realistic images in watercolor, acrylic, multi-media, and most recently, glass murals. Doug’s water series commission of Anianiku for the Kapolei Judciary Complex draws glowing reviews for the five large art glass bays that provides the site it’s unique identity. Educated at Coe College, New York University, and the University of Hawai’i, Doug built sculptural lifesize figures for the late realist sculptor Duane Hanson in New York and Germany. He worked for Ivan Karp at OK Harris in SoHo and assisted a handful of well-known artists such as Luis Jimenez and Elenore Mikus.

Doug has volunteered his time to numerous local /school/community art projects and recently completed a multiple art-glass mural commission for the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts for the new Kapolei Judiciary Building Complex. His work has been in numerous shows, collections and publications. He was one of the first recipients awarded the Individual Artist Fellowship from the HSFCA.
