Cindy Conklin

Watercolor Painting, Mixed Media, Scratchboard

Pulling inspiration from plants, marine life, birds and landscapes, Cindy renders familiar Hawaiian subjects in minute detail in her meticulous scratchboard engravings. The brilliantly colored drawings look unlike work in any other medium. Her watercolors demonstrate a looser approach to both subject and materials. In her two most recent series of paintings, which are based on the Hula Kahiko and Hawaiian petroglyphs, she uses a variety of watercolor techniques on handmade paper in contemporary compositions. A related series of watercolors does away with subject matter, completely focusing solely on color and pattern. A change in media to acrylics on canvas has produced another variation on these themes. Her work is sought after by designers for use in commercial projects and hotel renovations. Works are also in private, corporate and public collections.
