Barbara began making her unique woven jewelry in 1994. She learned the technique in a Hawai’i Stitchery and Fiber Arts Guild Workshop taught by visiting Washington, D.C. artist Helen Banes. Incorporating artifacts and beads, the technique involves combining the colors and textures of the beads with those of the fibers and coming up with a design that is pleasing and makes the wearer feel good. Edelstein is a past president of the Hawai’i Stitchery and Fiber Arts Guild and a member of the Hawai’i Handweavers’ Hui and Hawaii Craftsmen. Her work has been in juried shows of the Hui and Hawaii Craftsmen. She has been a member of the GAWC since January 1996. Originally from Michigan, Edelstein has lived in Honolulu since 1969.
